Mid-winter crisis, 1026

Beyond the farms and riverlands lies the Queensweald, an ancient forest where the rules of men thin and stranger laws prevail. Here dwell the Fae.

They are not a kingdom in the human sense, but a shifting court of spirits, tricksters, hunters, and ancient beings who treat the mortal world as both garden and game. Some wear beautiful shapes, others creep unseen in hedgerows, riverbanks, and moonlit clearings.

For many years, the people of Sigisfarne and the surrounding lands kept a wary peace with the forest. That balance is now breaking.

Famine spreads through the region. Refugees wander the roads. Villages weaken.

To the Fae, this is not a tragedy. It is an opportunity.

Struggling populations are easily tempted by bargains: food, shelter, protection, luck.

And among the Fae, there are those who seek to mix their blood with that of mortals, planting strange children among human communities.

These offspring—sometimes called goblins, changelings, or hedge-born—grow within human societies, slowly weaving the influence of the Queensweald into the world of men. Where hunger and desperation grow, the Fae can plant their seeds.

Goal

Your goal is simple: Embed goblins within the human populations of the region.

Through bargains, seduction, trickery, and quiet manipulation, you seek to ensure that the blood of the Queensweald spreads among the struggling people of Gravenmark.

Pressures

Human Desperation: Famine and refugees create opportunity—but starving people may also turn violent if they suspect fae manipulation.

The Church of the Weeping Mother: Human religion teaches that dealings with the Fae are dangerous and sinful. Priests and monks may try to protect their people from your influence.

The Basajaun: The ancient giant of the hills protects the order of the land and the people who farm it. He may see the spreading of fae blood among humans as a corruption of that balance.

The Mountain Court: The rulers of the region may send emissaries, hunters, or soldiers into the forest to impose control over the Queensweald and its inhabitants.
