Someone new to judge

In the early afternoon, as agreed, Pantaleo Batisti meets Maren and Kuno in the Bleeding Ram. Overhearing their conversation from a close table is the young judge Tullen, the Edict.

Pantaleo explains that in the morning of Altair death, the Baptist left Lucatore earlier than normal. He was also packing for a trip lasting a couple of days.

His body was found by the side of the road. There was no sign of struggle, such as footprints of a fight. Altair has been stabbed in his belly, deeply, many times.

A man shouting a sermon, accompanied by whipping sounds, in the market square, in front of the inn, interrupts the interview. Three Anabaptists leave the inn.

“Again? We will shut him up!”

Flayers & Anabaptists

“The Demiurge haunts you! He resides in your hearts. The Anabaptists have tainted the waters of life and invited the harbinger of hell to dine at your tables.“

A skinny, half-naked man stands on the dais in the market square, preaching, holding a bloody scourge in his hands. Disciples are kneeling next to him, and the crowd observes.

“The Baptist was the first sign. The hellhound has spat its spittle at the unbelievers. You will all perish from its tainted breath…”

The Anabaptists filter through the crowd and take the man down from the box he was standing in.

As the flayers are being taken out of Lucatore, Maren asks questions. Their leader, Scirocco, says he is here to redeem Lucatore of their sins. Altair is poisoning the oils under the eyes of Lucatore’s people. Soon, everyone will pay the Demiurge.

“Don’t believe in the lies of this scum!”

And the flayers are taken.

A chase in the woods

The Chronicler runs towards the woods. Thread follows him first, then Ambroggio. After a minute of chase, Thread sees that the woods are rigged: they are full of traps. The Chronicler on the run knows their location and can lose their chasers.

Thread investigates these traps, which don’t seem to be Chronicler-made. While disarming one, he accidentally triggers a second, and a shot of gunpowder and metal shards grazes his right leg. He decides to continue searching for the Chronicler, but the Anabaptists go back to the cemetery.

After an hour, Thread sees a cabin down the hill. It is far, and he turns back to return to the cemetery. The Chronicler is just there.

“This one is Decoy5. Is that one’s apparatus damaged? I have a mission: Find what secret Lady Neva is withholding. The Cluster will use this information to keep the Anabaptists in a smaller partition. Your score will increase.”

Deep detective work

Anastasia uses her time to dig around the boulder atop Altair’s grave. It will take her another hour, and a good shovel, to be able to access under the big stone. She hears the shot from the wood, and later meets Ambroggio and Thread.

Tullen, Maren and Kuno spend the rest of the afternoon combing Lucatore for further information. They learn that after Altair created the new Elysian Oils formula, a lot of money flooded the Cloister. Much of it went into House Benesato, and that is how the brothers kept their power in the region. With the increased trade, Apocalyptics also came to Lucatore - they brought undercover goods from other regions directly to the Anabaptists: an unexpected partnership.

After meeting the others coming from the cemetery, they all find Carmino Ferro. The Spitalian confirms he was to meet Altair on the day of his death - Carmino coming from Vivaco and Altair from Lucatore. They never did.
